Before I headed off to Africa to be the team photographer for our Malawi team, I pondered many a time about how I would use my camera as a vehicle for the good. Images can be so powerful & so much of the media chooses to portray the people of Africa in a way I did not feel comfortable doing. Rather then focusing on stereotypes I desired to let the beauty and dignity of the culture be illuminated.
This idea of being a visual peacemaker truly resonated with me. The video below speaks alot about my own desires as a photographer. I have so much to learn, but thankful to be part the International Visual Peacemakers Community.
I am working on my gallery and profile on the IGVP site, and will publish the link once it is ready!
